About Academic Programs
The academic programs of KICB2021 have been arranged to share healing and introspection through ceramics and art at this time of the COVID-19 andemic and the sustainability of ceramic crafts under the theme of re:Start.
International Talk Concert
Session 1 is the International Talk Concert featuring seven speakers engaged in ceramics. Each speaker discusses with the public such subjects as sustainability of the biennale, preservation and use of ceramics materials, understanding of traditional ceramics and contemporary ceramics, ontemporary ceramics that address social issues, online distribution and marketing of ceramic products, and education on ceramics at Korean universities.
Documentary on Pottery-making in Association with Local Communities
Session 2 is the Documentary on Pottery-making in Association with Local Communities. Ten ceramic artists based in Gyeonggi-do, the main stage of KICB, share their thoughts about ceramic art and pottery-making techniques with the public.
Established artists as well as emerging artists ranging in age from their 20s to their 80s were invited to this session after considering diversity in such respects as gender, field of work, and frequency of online exposure.
Voices of Young Artists in Association
Lastly, Session 3 is Voices of Young Artists in Association with Universities. Twenty undergraduates and graduate students of ceramics at Seoul National University of Science and Technology, Dankook University, Hongik University, Ewha Womans University, and Seoul Women’s University, who aspire to succeed as ceramic artists,
discuss how COVID-19, climate change, and changes in the social environment such as change in the ceramics market have influenced young ceramic artists and share their thoughts on college education in ceramics, creating art, and careers in ceramics.
